When the Södertälje resident was stopped at Arlanda, his suitcases were full of money. Now he and an accomplice are being convicted of smuggling 168 million kronor in bundles of banknotes. Their sentences will be five and five and a half years in prison, respectively.

It was one day in May that customs personnel at Arlanda became suspicious of the Södertälje resident. His bag was checked and it turned out to contain 25 million kronor. The banknotes had been packaged in garbage bags, reports SVT Nyheter Södertälje.

The accomplice is a resident of Stockholm. Attunda District Court convicts both men of aggravated commercial money laundering. They have smuggled 168 million kronor out of the country on eight occasions during the spring and early summer.

The evidence includes chat conversations. The prosecutor believes the money is linked to criminal activity, according to local media. During the trial, the men have denied any wrongdoing.
