The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development is giving Skåneleden 3.6 million SEK for projects that will contribute to creating trails that are at the forefront of recreation and tourism.

The Outdoor Skåne project will improve the Skåneleden by clearing, setting up uniform markings and information signs that make it easier for visitors to find and navigate nature, and make it easier to find accommodation, restaurants and cafés along the trail.

Joint project

Outdoor Skåne is a joint project that will be implemented by Region Skåne, the Skåne Landscape Foundation, the County Administrative Board and Tourism in Skåne.

– The purpose of the project is to work together towards the vision that Skåne will become the leading region in trails for recreation and tourism, says Sofie Norrby, trail developer at Skåneleden, Region Skåne.

Concrete efforts

Efforts will be carried out where there is a need and where there are weak links among the 1300 km Skåneled. Specifically, this means, among other things, the construction of eight new wind shelters, five new rest areas, four new mountain bike trails and that 180 km of Skåneleden will be upgraded through clearing, new spans/bridges and new markings. The new investments will be maintained by the municipalities after the project is completed.

Long-term joints

The project will run until autumn 2024 and will contribute to implementing the necessary investments required to meet the criteria in the national framework for lowland trails. This means:

  • Long-term quality-assured joints.
  • Make Skåne an attractive visitor destination with a focus on hospitality.
  • Create better public health for the people of Skåne through easily accessible trails that will attract physical activity in nature.
  • Contribute to developing and upgrading existing and new mountain bike trails in Skåne.
  • According to the press release.
