The upcoming funeral ceremony for Elizabeth II means extreme booking pressure on hotels in London. Nearly 95 percent of all rooms are booked and some hotels have tripled their prices to more than 10,000 kronor per night.
Ahead of next week, hotel prices in London have skyrocketed and the explanation is simple: Queen Elizabeth II's funeral ceremony taking place at Westminster Abbey. Hotel prices in London are now said to be reaching a new peak and occupancy is skyrocketing, reports the PA news agency.
According to the travel service Hotelplanner, the British capital's hotels have never been so fully booked.
Almost all hotels surveyed have raised prices and at one of the hotels closest to Westminster Abbey, a hotel room for Sunday night is reported to cost 999 pounds compared to 268 pounds seven days later.
However, the high prices do not stop tourists from connecting from all over the world.
”This is history, it only happens once in a lifetime so we want to be a part of it,” says Kanakkantt Benedict, who traveled to London from India with his wife.
Several hundred thousand people are now expected to fill the streets of London to bid farewell to the Queen. However, from a crude perspective, the large influx of tourists is a positive for the British economy.
Small business owners are also noticing increased interest – not least those who have their businesses along the long queue where the public waits to bid farewell to the Queen in Westminster Hall.
”It’s a long queue, this is definitely having a big impact on business,” says Jason Rich, who sells lentil burgers from his stall on the Thames.
