Record hot weather in Kristianstad – mild in large parts of the country

It is unusually mild in large parts of the country. In Kristianstad, a new heat record was set on Friday with 19.5 degrees.

”"We have never before measured such a high temperature this late in the year," says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, meteorologist at SMHI.

The explanation for the warm weather is an area of mild air that lies over large parts of the country.

”The mild air is brought in by a high pressure area centered over Northern Italy.”

And more autumn days with pleasant temperatures are expected. The mild air is expected to find its way north in the coming days.

”"It will continue to be mild throughout the country next week," says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.

Friday's temperature in Kristianstad, however, was not a heat record for October. It was set on October 9, 1995 in Oskarshamn when it was 24.5 degrees.

Kristianstad wasn't the only place in Skåne that had a warm Friday. In Malmö, 18.7 degrees was measured and in Hörby it was 18.3 degrees.

Pleasant temperatures were also recorded in other parts of Sweden. In Gävle, for example, the temperature rose to 14.8 degrees, while it was 14.5 degrees in Arvika.
