This year Malmö Airport turns 50 and this will be celebrated through various activities at the airport and in Swedavia's channels throughout the year. By highlighting the airport as an international meeting place and communications hub for half a century, Malmö Airport's important role and the developments, not least in the climate transition, that have taken place to strengthen accessibility to Skåne and the Öresund region are also highlighted.
– After more than two years of pandemic, it is of course very gratifying to have the opportunity to draw attention to Malmö Airport's role and importance for southern Sweden as well as the development journey that the airport has made as an international and climate-smart meeting place during the first fifty years. Now our important mission continues with a strong focus on strengthening accessibility to the region and the rest of the world while we continue to drive the industry's transition to fossil-free aviation. In order to meet more travelers this summer and beyond after several years of pandemic, major recruitment efforts are underway by us and our partners at the airport, says Karin Öhrström, Airport Manager Malmö Airport at Swedavia.
The celebration of the airport's first fifty years will take place throughout the year, starting in May, and will benefit travelers and other visitors through exhibitions at the airport and via Swedavia's social media. With historical photos and interviews with current and former employees, visitors will get a look back at milestones and highlights with a focus on the airport's development and importance to the region. The historical look back will be interspersed with the airport's vision for the future of sustainable air travel.
