This spring, the airline will launch a new route to the Italian capital. Rome and the so-called German car capital Stuttgart, in southwest Germany.
Eurowings continues its expansion in Sweden and at Swedavia's airports and, in connection with the summer program, is launching two more new direct routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport and expanding capacity to Berlin, Faro, Larnaca, Malaga, Nice, Palma de Mallorca and Prague.
In connection with the 2022 summer program, the airline opened a new base and nearly twenty European routes that complement Arlanda's other destination offering. At the end of March 2023, Eurowings will open its third destination from Gothenburg Landvetter when they start flying directly to Berlin four times a week, and this winter they will start direct service to Düsseldorf from Kiruna and Luleå Airport. Now two more new routes are being launched, and at the end of March 2023, Eurowings will start flying directly from Stockholm Arlanda to Rome and Stuttgart.
The number of travelers to Italy has grown strongly over the past three years, and Rome is the largest Italian destination from Stockholm Arlanda. In addition to being Italy's most popular tourist destination, the city's large port is the starting point for many Mediterranean cruises.
Germany is Sweden's second largest trading partner and a very important market for both business and leisure travel and has been one of the largest markets from Arlanda so far this year. The Stuttgart line, which has been idle from Stockholm for a couple of years, is in high demand. Before the pandemic, the vast majority of travelers from Germany traveled to Sweden to tour, visit family and friends or do business. The automotive sector is large in Stuttgart and about a third travel for business.
The region around Stuttgart also has a lot to offer tourists; in addition to the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum which are two major attractions, the Württemberg region is a popular wine region and Stuttgart is home to the largest beer festival in Germany after Oktoberfest.

Rome is one of our most popular destinations for tourist Swedes and Eurowings traffic will be an addition to the existing offer. It is clear that there is a very high demand for direct routes to Italy and an expanded offer benefits both Swedish and Italian travellers, says Charlotte Ljunggren, Chief Commercial Officer at Swedavia. Germany is one of Arlanda's largest markets and it is extra exciting to have the new direct route to Stuttgart. It is a popular destination and the new accessibility is important for both private and business travellers, not least incoming Germans, concludes Charlotte Ljunggren.
Starting on March 26, 2023, Eurowings will operate Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – RomeFiumicino Airport (FCO) three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. The route is currently also operated by Norwegian, Ryanair and SAS.
