Berlin Airport will cancel all traffic on Wednesday due to a strike, several media outlets report.

According to the airport operator, 300 flights will be canceled on Wednesday, affecting around 35,000 travelers. Among other things, flights to and from Stockholm and Copenhagen are canceled.

The strike has been initiated by Verdi, Germany's largest union for the service sector. The union is demanding a pay increase of 500 euros (5,500 kronor) for ground staff over a 12-month period, while security staff should receive larger bonuses during weekends and public holidays. However, negotiations with the employer have stalled.

Berlin Airport, known as Brandenburg, opened in 2020, replacing Tegel as the German capital's main airport. Last year, it handled around 19 million passengers, making it Germany's third-largest airport after Frankfurt and Munich.
