Vy Tåg is releasing summer train tickets for the Norrland Night Train, despite the Swedish Transport Administration being delayed in determining the train timetable.

Many people want to book their trip well in advance, which we want to create the conditions for. The Swedish Transport Administration does not give us the opportunity to release tickets with the advance notice that our passengers want, and therefore we have developed an alternative solution, says Dag Lokrantz-Bernitz, CEO of Vy Tåg.  

In order to be able to release summer tickets already in March, Vy Tåg will sell tickets on a preliminary timetable. There will be no major adjustments once the Swedish Transport Administration has established the timetable, and if adjustments are made, Vy Tåg will contact all affected passengers in good time. During the summer, there will be two night trains northbound and two night trains southbound every day as usual, with the exception of Midsummer Eve and a few days where major track work is planned. 

Early ticket releases are crucial for the tourism industry 

The tourism industry has long raised the need to release tickets with longer notice than the Swedish Transport Administration currently provides. Therefore, the regional tourism industry organization Swedish Lapland Visitors Board, among others, welcomes Vy's initiative.

– The pandemic has changed the motives of our destination's potential visitors regarding where and how they want to travel, as well as booking and purchasing behavior. A recent survey that our destination participated in shows that sustainable transport alternatives are increasing in relevance. 23% of Scandinavian travelers respond that they will travel more by train and 18% will spend more on train tickets, says Annika Fredriksson, CEO and continues.
 

– For northernmost Sweden as a travel destination to be relevant and competitive, it is absolutely crucial that travelers are able to book their place on the train many months in advance.
