The Danish State Railways (DSB) jointly presented to the Danish public a full-size model of the new IC5 Coradia Stream trains in the presence of Flemming Jensen (CEO of the Danish State Railways), Emmanuel Henry (CEO of Alstom in Denmark) and various stakeholders.
In April 2021, Alstom and DSB signed a historic framework agreement worth €2.6 billion for the supply of 100 Coradia Stream trains and 15 years of full service maintenance. To facilitate the design and manufacturing process, Alstom produced a full-scale model of the new IC5 train.
The model, in real size, is equipped with seats, tables and other interior details and will be used to demonstrate the train's features and design to various interest groups, including DSB customers and staff. Ensuring an outstanding travel experience and comfortable seating are priority goals, and the new interior design allows customers to both relax and work during the journey. The new design offers improved passenger features such as a wider table top, reclining seats, individual armrests, reading lights and charging facilities at each seat. In addition, the IC5 train will have more screens than the current DSB trains, giving passengers better access to real-time travel information.
Minor changes may be made before the design is fully finalized, but the 1:1 scale model of the IC5 train already gives customers and employees a glimpse of what to expect.

The new IC5 train is based on Alstom’s state-of-the-art, high-performance low-floor electric multiple unit (EMU) Coradia Stream, meeting today’s requirements for regional and intercity transport. Coradia Stream offers a modular design that allows operators to choose the configuration and interior that best suits their market and commercial strategy. In total, over 1,000 trains based on the Coradia Stream train family have already been ordered by Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and other countries, ensuring that the trains are a proven product. The train family also offers zero direct emission versions, such as battery or hydrogen technology for non-electrified lines. A dedicated high-capacity solution completes the portfolio. In addition, Alstom’s sustainable approach to servicing takes into account the entire product life cycle, from initial design to end-of-life, which will maximise the value of DSB’s assets.
The IC5 trains are adapted to meet the demands of the Danish railway network and their top speed of 200 km/h will ensure rapid mobility throughout the country. They are a prerequisite for taking full advantage of the major infrastructure projects currently being implemented on the railway, such as electrification and new signals.
The IC5 trains will replace the IC3, IC4, IR4 and Öresund trains. These will be gradually phased out and will be used as both express trains, intercity trains and regional trains.
The materials in the new IC5 trains are inspired by Danish design tradition and offer, among other things, seat upholstery with a high proportion of wool, which means that the seats avoid environmentally harmful surface treatments. All products and materials are eco-labeled and up to 96% of the train can be recycled. The IC5 train has five carriages with 300 seats. The carriages have low entry, there are flexible spaces for bicycles and strollers and even more places for storing luggage than the existing trains
