Now, Hotels.com is releasing its first room service survey, revealing that nearly 40 percent of hotels surveyed report an increase in demand for the popular amenity globally. Some of the most unusual requests include diet water, melted ice cream and a bowl of rice for dogs. The survey is summarized below, and more can be read in the attached press release.  

Hamburger the big winner

Hamburgers are the most popular menu item globally (40 percent), beating out classics like club sandwiches, pizza and fries. Hamburgers are most often ordered between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Other interesting findings from the survey:

  • One-third (30 percent) of travelers spend at least SEK 1,000 on room service per night
  • One in three hotels (33 percent) has seen an increase in vegan orders and vegetarian orders have increased by 40 percent in the past year
  • Half (50 percent) of hotels report that guests order more sophisticated food in the hotel restaurant

  4. Boiled bottled water
  5. Cooked fish that the guest brought with them
  6. Fried mussels
  7. Omelette without egg whites

  10. Eggs in hell (Shakshuka), but without eggs
