”"I need a week of vacation before I get back into shape.".

Do you recognize yourself?

Many of us are stressed before the holidays. But to have a calm, harmonious and enjoyable vacation, we need to get back on track. During one of Simployer's webinars, Mental cooling down before the holidays, Annika Kvist shared tips and advice on cooling down before the summer holidays. There, she took as a starting point the brain's own food circle, "The Healthy Mind Platter", which was developed by David Rock and Dr. Dan Siegel. It describes seven different ingredients that the brain needs to feel good.

But how can you easily start your cool-down now?

Here is a simple routine for a more sustainable everyday life and better mental balance this summer:

5 steps to unwind before the holidays

  1. Breathe
Start each morning by taking 20 deep breaths and setting a positive intention for the day about how you want to feel. For example, calm, balanced, harmonious, etc.
  2. Prioritize
Think through your most important work and personal priorities that need to be done before you go on vacation. Set aside time to get them done and put them on your calendar, preferably at the beginning of the day, when you are focused.
  3. Breathe again
End your day with 20 deep breaths and think about what you are grateful for today. It doesn't have to be anything big, but could be a cup of coffee with a colleague, a nice walk to work, etc.
  4. Sync your expectations
Talk to your family or those you are going to celebrate the holiday with about your expectations. How can you help each other make the holiday as good as possible, so that everyone's needs can be met and the holiday will be as good as possible?
  5. Drop the job
Once the holidays begin, let go of work and do things you enjoy. For example, reading a book, exercising, being outdoors, hanging out with people you like, or just letting your thoughts flow freely.
