The consumer organization Resenärerna has chosen Uppsala Central Station as Station of the Year. The recipients are Jernhusen, Uppsala Municipality, Uppsala Region and the Swedish Transport Administration.
For the second year in a row, the consumer organization Resenärerna has named one of Jernhusen's stations as Station of the Year. This time, the turn has come to Jernhusen's Uppland gem: Uppsala Central Station.
Uppsala Central Station has existed as a phenomenon since 1866, almost 167 years. During that time, travel has grown significantly and today the station is one of the five most used stations in Sweden, second only to Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö Central Stations. This is because many people commute between Uppsala and the capital. Because of this, the station has needed to be developed and since 2010 the new station building is the main station, while the old station building houses two popular restaurants.
— It feels fantastic that Resenärerna has chosen to nominate Uppsala Central Station as Station of the Year, says Petra Hersgren, Head of Region Northeast at Jernhusen. Uppsala is a key station for commuting between Uppsala and Stockholm and we put a lot of effort into everything from the comfort and service at the station to the important safety issues. We work in close collaboration with Uppsala Municipality, the region and the Swedish Transport Administration. Therefore, it feels absolutely right that we also share the award with them.
The Station of the Year 2023 award is awarded to Jernhusen, Uppsala Municipality, Uppsala Region and the Swedish Transport Administration and was presented at a graduation ceremony at Uppsala Central Station on October 19, 2023.
— Travelers have chosen Uppsala C as Station of the Year 2023. The station has a good range of services and a well-structured coordination between train and bus traffic. It is easy to understand for both the regular commuter, the infrequent traveler and the tourist, says Jonas Friberg, chairman of Travelers.
About Uppsala Central Station:
Uppsala Central Station is one of Sweden's five largest railway stations and is a hub for Uppland's regular traffic. The station area, including bus stops on both sides of the tracks, is also called Uppsala Travel Center. Local, regional and national public transport, through buses, trains and commuter trains, connects there.
The old station building was designed by Adolf W. Edelsvärd and opened in 1866. It was used as a station building until 2010 when a new building designed by the architectural firm Wåhlin Arkitekter was opened. Uppsala's new central station contains customer service and ticketing as well as restaurants/cafes and shops. The older station building is now a listed building and contains two popular restaurants. Both the old and new station buildings are owned and managed by Jernhusen.
