Aviation in Sweden continues to recover from the pandemic. During the third quarter of the year, just over nine million passengers traveled to or from the country's major airports.
The more than nine million passengers at the state-owned airport company Swedavia's airports during July–September represented an increase of nine percent compared to the corresponding period in 2022, the company writes in a press release.
For the whole of 2023, 25 million passengers have landed or departed from one of Swedavia's airports during the first three quarters. This means that travel during January–September has increased by 22 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
”"The recovery in air travel after the pandemic continued during the quarter, but the pace slowed at the end of the quarter," says Swedavia's President and CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in the press release.
Abrahamsson further says that the increased travel contributed to improved operating profit for both the third quarter and the nine-month period, and mentions the inauguration of the new marketplace and also of the new security checkpoint at Arlanda.
Swedavia operates ten airports in Sweden, including Arlanda, Landvetter and Malmö Airport.
