Ahead of the Christmas holidays, the County Administrative Board is offering a unique opportunity to take time off and experience an adventurous and cozy holiday amidst beautiful nature. Why not book a simple but charmingly located cottage in Dalafjällen and create memories for a lifetime?
The County Administrative Board offers a selection of cabins, some of which are easy to reach. One example is Valdalsbygget, about 3 kilometers on skis from the road. For the adventurous looking for a challenge on skis with demanding terrain and steep climbs, southern Vardsätern in Tandövala Nature Reserve is recommended. Alternatively, there is the newly renovated cabin at Morvallen in Vedungsfjällen Nature Reserve. You can reach Morvallen by snowmobile or on skis from Fjätervålen, which is about 13 kilometers away. You can also go ski touring or snowmobile from Öjvasslan, which is about 8 kilometers away.
Important tips for before the trip:
- Bring food! All cabins are located far from the nearest grocery store.
- Bring a mountain map and compass, or a GPS. Always leave a travel message if you are out on your own.
- A mobile phone is essential, but be aware that coverage may be limited depending on your subscription.
- Don't forget your flashlight or preferably a headlamp.
- Knife to be able to make a fire.
- Be responsible and bring a garbage bag. All garbage must be taken back.
- Bring extra clothes for a dry change.
- First dressing.
- These are touring skis.
Other useful things to bring:
- Toilet paper/napkins.
- Quick-drying towel.
- Power bank for your mobile phone.
- Matches or lighters. Bring fire lighters.
- Candles or lanterns for an extra cozy atmosphere.
