Lufthansa staff go on strike

Ground staff at the German airline Lufthansa will go on strike on Tuesday.

This was announced by the Verdi trade union, according to Reuters.The strike is scheduled to begin at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning and end at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

It affects airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and Stuttgart. During a similar strike in early February, 900 flights were canceled, affecting around 100,000 passengers.

The union is demanding a 12.5 percent pay increase for 25,000 employees, or at least 500 euros more per month over a 12-month period.

They also want to see a one-time payment of 3,000 euros to compensate for inflation.
