Punctuality in train traffic is the worst since 2010. This is shown by figures from the Swedish Transport Administration's annual report, reports SVT.

For a train to be considered punctual, it must have arrived at its final station no later than 5 minutes and 59 seconds after the timetable. The common goal for the railway industry is for 95 percent of trains to be punctual.

In 2023, punctuality was 87.7 percent, which turns out to be the lowest result in 13 years.

Last year's delays were due to a variety of factors such as accidents, floods, snow, ice and switch failures.

The annual report also describes the derailment of an Arlanda Express train as the major cause of poor punctuality. The reason was that train traffic had to run on single track and at reduced speed during the repair period.
