Delta Air Lines lifts in pre-market trading on report – makes record sales

The American airline Delta Air Lines reports unexpectedly strong results for the first quarter of the year. The profit was $37 million after the highest sales ever for a first quarter for the company.

Adjusted earnings per share rose to 45 cents, up from 25 cents a year earlier. Analysts on average had expected 36 cents, according to a Bloomberg survey.

In the report, the company writes that it expects adjusted operating profit of $2.20-2.50 per share for the second quarter. This compares with an average market forecast of $2.23.

For the full year, Delta Airlines expects a profit of 6-7 dollars per share, compared to a forecast of 6.46 dollars per share.

Delta's stock rises in futures trading on Wall Street after the report.
