In May, Taylor Swift will perform three concerts at Friends Arena in Solna, which will be her only tour stop in the Nordics. The Stockholm Chamber of Commerce has previously calculated that concertgoers are expected to spend half a billion during their time in Stockholm. Now, a new analysis compiled by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce shows that flight and hotel prices are increasing sharply. In addition, new calculations produced by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Amazon Sweden show that sales of accessories are increasing rapidly.
– Swiftonomics is an established concept all over the world. When Taylor Swift visits the capital, it will have a major impact on Stockholm's economy. But surrounding industries will also see a huge economic boost, says Carl Bergkvist, Chief Economist at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
Now the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, together with Amazon Sweden, can present new figures on how sales of Taylor Swift-related clothing and accessories are soaring. In total, sales of Taylor Swift accessories have increased by 79% compared to the same period last year.
Women's cowboy hats stand out in particular, rising by 155 %, while friendship bracelet beads are up by 30 %. In addition, body glitter sales have increased by 65 %.
The figures also show that the number of Taylor Swift-related searches on Amazon.se increased by 324% during January-April 2024 compared to the same period last year. The trend began in July 2023, when tickets for Taylor's Sweden concert went on sale.
The Chamber of Commerce's calculations today show how hotel prices have increased sharply during the period Taylor Swift visits the capital. In total, prices are up 295 %. Flight tickets to Stockholm from Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo are also seeing a sharp price increase and have increased by 49 %.
– There is a significant risk that hotel rooms will run out in the county. As it stands right now, there are more concertgoers traveling in than there are hotel beds in the county, says Carl Bergkvist.
