In the coming weeks, many Swedes will be going on a trip abroad. But for some, the holiday is not only associated with anticipation, but also with some anxiety. A new survey conducted by Kantar Media on behalf of TUI shows that 35 percent are worried about getting sick during the holiday. Bad weather also tops the list of possible worries on holiday – one in four of those surveyed express concern about this. Next comes safety at the destination as an area that creates stress before departure, with one in five answering this.

– It is clear that health and safety are high on the Swedes' agenda when planning their vacation, which speaks volumes for the package tour as a safe travel alternative. At the same time, it is always important to review your insurance coverage before departure, regardless of the form of travel, says Dian Martinez Valencia, communications manager at TUI.

Over the past week, there have been reports of rising temperatures around the Mediterranean, but heat waves do not seem to worry Swedes. Barely one in ten is worried about the heat, according to the Sifo survey.

– More people are worried about spending too much money on holiday than heat waves. For many, the summer months are the only time when they have the opportunity to go on a long-awaited trip. Most people are aware that it can be very hot at times then, says Dian Martinez Valencia, at TUI.

Younger people worry more than seniors
Younger travelers (18-34 years old) are particularly concerned about potential problems when traveling abroad, with only nine percent of younger travelers saying they have no worries at all, compared to 16 percent of seniors (56-79 years old).

Top 5 – this is what Swedes worry about before their holiday trip

  2. Bad weather (24 percent)
  3. Safety at the destination (19 percent)
  4. Spending too much money (16 percent)
  5. Flight delays (15 percent)
