Tallink Grupp publishes its passenger and freight statistics for June and the second quarter of 2024.
The figures show that the group transported 1,451,768 passengers in the second quarter of the 2024 financial year (April-June), which is a decrease of 5.8 % compared to the same period the previous year (1,541,081 passengers in Q2 2023).
The number of freight units transported in Q2 2024 on the company's regular routes was 86,813 units, an increase of 1.7 % compared to the same period last year (85,359 freight units in Q2 2023). The number of passenger cars transported in Q2 2024 was 209,760, a decrease of 11.4 % compared to the same period last year (236,756 passenger cars in Q2 2023).
The second quarter results reflect the start of operations of the cruise ship Victoria I as the second ship on the Tallinn-Stockholm route, in addition to the Baltic Queen. The ship was added to the route on 31 May 2024 and will continue to offer cruises between Tallinn and Stockholm until 31 August 2024.
In June 2024, the company transported a total of 570,803 passengers, which is a decrease of 3.7 % compared to June 2023 (592,887 passengers transported in June 2023). The number of freight units transported decreased by 8.5 % to 25,383 units (27,738 freight units were transported in June 2023) and the total number of passenger cars transported in June 2024 was 86,651 vehicles, which is a decrease of 9.8 % compared to the same period last year (96,086 passenger cars transported in June 2023).
– The second quarter result was affected by the fact that Easter fell in March this year, unlike last year when Easter was celebrated in April. On the freight side, our figures increased in April as a result of the strikes in Finland earlier this year and in May we saw an increase in passenger numbers thanks to the summer heat. June also saw a pleasing increase on the Tallinn-Stockholm route, as a result of the addition of Victoria I and more departures on the popular route. Hopefully, we will be able to welcome even more holidaymakers and travellers on board our ships during the upcoming high season months of July and August, says Pirate Mürk-Dubout, board member of Tallink Grupp.
