Since June 26, 2024, Zagreb has been home to a unique museum dedicated to neckties. The concept behind this museum is to highlight the historical significance of the necktie, trace its roots back to Croatia, and establish the country as the birthplace of the necktie.
Ties are an everyday fashion item that is often overlooked, but they have a fascinating history. Their origins can be traced back to the 17th century when Croatian mercenaries in French service wore scarves as part of their uniforms. This fashion accessory quickly became popular in France and evolved into the modern tie we know today. Over the past four centuries, they have played important symbolic roles.
Despite its focus on a 400-year-old artifact, this museum is far from outdated. It is designed in a modern, engaging and visually stunning way, captivating visitors in a surprisingly pleasant way.
Here you can discover the only tie made of bulletproof material, view silkworm cocoons and threads under a microscope, explore a 3D horse exhibit, travel back to the 17th century and immerse yourself in a regimental uniform, and marvel at the innovative designs of Juraj Zigman, the famous Croatian fashion designer who has worked with Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Rit UO, Cristina Aguilera, Cardi B, and more.
”Learning should be fun, especially for the younger audience, which is why this museum is designed to share many facts and stories about ties in an entertaining and interactive way,” explains Igor Mladinović, one of the museum’s co-owners.
Opening hours: Daily from 10:00 to 20:00.
