Aircraft manufacturer Boeing's sales and earnings were lower than expected in the second quarter, but the stock rose more than 3 percent in pre-market trading. The company has appointed a new CEO in connection with the report.

”Despite a challenging quarter, we are making significant progress in strengthening our quality management system and positioning our company for the future,” said CEO Dave Calhoun.

Revenue fell 14.6 percent to $16.87 billion. The outcome compares with the Factset analyst consensus of $17.35 billion.

The net loss increased to $1.43 billion.

Adjusted earnings per share were minus $2.90, which is clearly worse than the analyst consensus of minus $1.90.

In connection with the report, it is announced that the board has appointed Robert K. ”Kelly” Ortberg as new CEO and he will take office on August 8. Ortberg replaces Dave Calhoun who earlier this year announced that he intends to leave the company.
