A Norwegian flight strike is getting closer for SAS. The parties must reach an agreement by midnight on Thursday.

During the day, the parties, including the Norwegian cabin crew union, sat down for new negotiations. This after the union announced that it would take 115 members on strike starting Friday if an agreement cannot be reached with the airline.

The issue of dispute is, not unexpectedly, wage levels, with unions claiming that SAS is between 15 and 30 percent lower than competitors, such as Norwegian. The union now claims that wages have been stagnant for the past twelve years.

– We have actually been standing still for twelve years while others have seen a gradual increase in wages, which has caused them to lag behind, says Martinus Røkkum, who represents the cabin crew union.
