Starting in April next year, Swedes must apply for a digital travel authorization, known as an ETA, to travel to the UK, according to the British government's website.

The permit is required for everyone entering the country, adults and children, and costs £10 (equivalent to around 135 Swedish kronor). According to authorities, the application, which is made via an app or online, is usually approved within three days.

– We Swedes love London, it's a big travel destination, so in that way this means a big change, says travel expert Lottie Knutson to TV4.

The UK already requires an ETA for citizens from several countries in the Middle East. At the turn of the year, the requirement will be extended to a large number of countries in the rest of the world, and in April it will also be required for travelers from most countries in Europe.

– It means a cost and more hassle for travelers. I think it will be received with some surprise because so little has been communicated. It will probably require major information efforts, Knutson tells TV4.
