All flights at Shanghai's major airports are grounded until further notice as the city of millions prepares for Typhoon Bebinca.

The severe storm is expected to reach Shanghai sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, local time, according to authorities.

According to the disaster agency, the typhoon will bring torrential rain with extremely heavy rainfall in some places between Sunday and Tuesday.

Bebinca makes landfall on a major holiday when the country's train operator expects Chinese people to make around 74 million trips. Authorities are urging people to keep a close eye on weather developments.

The weather agency has issued an orange typhoon warning, the second highest level on a four-point scale, for parts of Shanghai and nearby areas.

Bebinca passed through the Philippines on Friday, where at least three people died from falling trees after strong winds.

Recently, another typhoon, Yagi, swept across Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, among others. In Vietnam, around 200 people have died and in Myanmar, over 70 have died as a result of Yagi.
