The big autumn travel week is fast approaching, and this year too, Swedish travellers are attracted by both sun and big cities. SAS's compilation shows which destinations are making Swedes pack their bags. At the top of the list are timeless favourites such as Malaga, London and New York.
This year, Hamburg and Milan have seen a boost among Swedish travelers, with significant increases compared to last year. However, the metropolises London, Paris and Amsterdam are the three major cities in the EU that top the list for Swedes. SAS is also seeing an increase in interest in other major European cities.
Intercontinental dreams – New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco at the top
Travelers who fly to another continent still have the United States as their big favorite. New York continues to be the most sought-after long-haul destination for the fall holidays, followed by Los Angeles and San Francisco.
“We see a clear trend where interest in international travel increases significantly during all school holidays, and the autumn holidays are no exception. To meet the increasing demand, we have increased the number of flights to several of the most popular destinations, giving our travelers even more opportunities to discover the world.”, says Edward Fotheringham, global sales manager at SAS.
The sun in focus – the Swedes' love for Southern Europe lives on
The Swedes' longing for sun and warmth does not diminish during the autumn holidays and many seek out Southern Europe, which at the end of October still offers pleasant temperatures. Malaga, Alicante and Palma have long been sunny favorites, and demand for these flights is as strong as before. Whether the trip is to the Andalusian coast or the historic alleys of Rome, it is clear that Swedes appreciate both sun and culture during the autumn holidays.
Where do Danes and Norwegians travel?
Danes' autumn holiday trips show both similarities and differences compared to Swedes' favourite cities. London and Paris attract many travellers from both countries, while Milan is particularly popular with Danes. On the top list of intercontinental routes, the common denominators are New York and Los Angeles, but Danes also choose Boston and Tokyo. When it comes to sunny destinations, Malaga, Rome and Palma are the obvious choices for both countries.
Just like the Swedes, Norwegians like to travel to big cities like London, Amsterdam, Milan and Paris, but they also choose Brussels, which is not on either the Danish or Swedish top lists. When Norwegians want to celebrate their autumn holidays in the sun, they, just like their Scandinavian neighbors, choose classic places like Malaga and Alicante.
