Traffic and launches summer trains between Oslo and Malmö during the period July 14 to August 11.
– Interest in trains is increasing and in 2023 we doubled the number of departures between Oslo and Gothenburg. But we have bigger ambitions than that and will now test a summer train between Oslo and Malmö, says Vy Tåg's Group Director, Erik Røhne.
– We are pleased to be able to offer our customers new travel options, and it is natural for us to use the strength we have from operating in both Norway and Sweden. We believe that this summer train will be popular, as it makes it easier to travel environmentally friendly to Europe, says Røhne.
The summer train will have good connections to connecting departures. From Malmö you can easily travel to Copenhagen and, among other things, take the night train to Germany. In Oslo there are good connections to both the Bergen Line and the Dovre Line for further travel in Norway.
In 2023, Vy Norge doubled the number of departures between Oslo and Gothenburg and there has been strong growth on the route throughout 2024.
– We look forward to continuing our investment in international traffic. If there is interest and the summer train in 2025 is a success, we hope that this will become a regular feature every summer in the future. And this is just the beginning, says Røhne.
The next step in the international venture will be trains to Copenhagen.
– Since the spring of 2024, Vy and DSB have been in dialogue to find a collaboration on the Oslo - Copenhagen route from 2026. We are now approaching a concrete solution, and we look forward to being able to provide more details about this during the spring, concludes Røhne.
Vy is also interested in taking a closer look at a night train directly from Oslo to Copenhagen, and is involved in the formal dialogue that the Norwegian Railway Directorate has with the railway companies that have expressed interest.
Once Fehrmanbelt is open, Vy will also consider several opportunities in Europe.

Tickets for the summer train between Oslo and Malmö will be available from mid-April in Vy's channels.
The trains run as two daily extensions of today's departures between Oslo and Gothenburg during the period July 14 and August 11.
