The global travel company TUI has awarded a prize to the hotel partner that has implemented the most exciting sustainability initiative during the year and has contributed to creating more sustainable tourism.

This year, Akra Hotels was recognized with the TUI Sustainability Award 2025 at the annual TUI Global Hotel Awards gala in Berlin last week. The award is presented to the actor that has implemented the most exciting, inspiring and innovative sustainability initiative within the hotel industry during the past year.

Building your own solar power plants
Akra Hotels was honored for its investments in 100 percent green energy in Turkey. Three solar power plants have been built in the Elamli and Alanya regions with a combined capacity of over 12 MW. The solar power plants will supply four of Akra's hotels with electricity from only renewable energy sources.

Commits to reducing emissions from its own operations
Sustainability and more sustainable tourism are priority issues for TUI. The travel company has set an ambitious sustainability agenda with a clear action plan to reduce emissions from its own operations. The action plan states, among other things, that TUI will reduce emissions from its own hotels by almost half, 46.2 percent, by 2030. These goals are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and are in line with the climate goals of the Paris Agreement.
