The leading European stock exchanges ended Tuesday's trading lower. The Stoxx 600 composite index weakened by 1.8 percent.

Several European airline stocks were pressured after US carriers American Air Lines and Delta Air Lines lowered their forecasts for the first quarter of 2025. Franco-Dutch carrier Air France-KLM and German carrier Lufthansa fell 9.0 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively. British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) was also down 6.7 percent.

The DAX index in Frankfurt fell 1.3 percent. Carmaker Volkswagen fell 0.1 percent after releasing mixed results for the full year 2024.

Things went better for equipment company GEA, which rose 2.2 percent after reporting above expectations for the fourth quarter of 2024.

On the Zurich Stock Exchange, skin care company Galderma lost 6.7 percent after a block deal, in which, among others, the venture capital company EQT participated. A total of 15 million Galderma shares were sold, corresponding to 6.3 percent of the company's share capital.

In London, the FTSE 100 index was down 1.3 percent.

The French CAC 40 index also weakened by 1.4 percent.
