Foreign tourism in Skåne is increasing. Germany is the leading foreign market with substantial growth, although Denmark is still a very important market for our southern region. Visit Skåne's annual report is ready. We now present a general summary of tourism development in Skåne in 2024.
The report shows current statistics on guest nights, accommodation capacity and occupancy rates, and also accounts for visitor consumption patterns from our priority markets of Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. Guest nights in numbers
The annual report for 2024 now shows that foreign guest nights in the region are in a strong development with an increase of four percent, while the country as a whole is increasing by two percent. The choice of accommodation is about hotels, which continue to dominate - although with a marginal decrease. The overall figure for the total number of guest nights in Skåne increases by 0.5 percent. Germany is the foreign market that stands out as the largest with significant growth for Skåne of almost eight percent. Denmark maintains its position as our second largest foreign market, but with a slight decline of just over one percent from the record year 2023.
Accommodation revenue and occupancy
For 2024, Skåne's key figures for accommodation and occupancy statistics show a consistently positive trend. Total accommodation revenues increase by 2.4 percent, while RevPAR (revenue per available room) rises by 0.9 percent and ARR (average room rate) by 1.6 percent.
Consumption trends
VISA's debit card data shows that consumption from foreign visitors in Skåne will increase by three percent in 2024, while consumption from Swedish visitors will decrease by five percent. Among our priority markets, a minor decline in consumption from Danish visitors is noted by three percent, while both German and Dutch visitors show significant increases of 16 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
