A volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the so-called Sundhn+uk crater, has erupted, writes Icelandic Ruv.

The Blue Lagoon and the town of Grindavik have been evacuated. An hour ago, the town's civil protection stated that evacuations were underway and that police were driving around Grindavik and checking houses.

Over 130 earthquakes were recorded overnight, according to a statement from the country's meteorological institute.

The police have decided to raise the alert level to the highest possible.
