Man from Västerås dies in ferry accident

A man from Västerås has died in an accident on the Finnlines ferry Finncanopus, reports VLT. The accident occurred on Sunday night when the ferry was in port in Naantali, Finland. Police were called to the scene at 1:30 a.m.

According to Finnish police, the man fell from an upper deck to a lower one and died at the scene. The incident is being investigated as a homicide and police do not suspect any foul play.

– The case is with the Finnish police. The only thing I can say is that we assisted in leaving a death notice regarding a man from the region after an accident in Finland, says Tobias Ahlén-Svalbro, press spokesperson for Police Region Mitt, to VLT.

Finncanopus operates the route between Naantali and Sweden via Åland.
