Bookings for the sports holiday have increased by 19 percent and Gran Canaria retains its top spot as the most booked destination. At the same time, this year's top list also shows strong interest in both European cities and Thailand.
The sports holidays are approaching and significantly more Swedes are booking trips than last year. As the winter darkness takes hold, many choose to travel away, and according to recent figures from the travel agency Ticket, bookings for the sports holidays have increased by 19 percent. Just like in previous years, the list is topped by Gran Canaria, which is once again the most booked destination.
– We are seeing a clear upswing ahead of the sports holidays. Gran Canaria is one of the most weather-safe options in Europe during the holidays, which makes the destination particularly attractive for those who want to trade the winter cold for more wonderful weather without having to travel far, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and communications manager at travel agency Ticket.
In addition to classic sun destinations such as Gran Canaria, Málaga, Alicante and Tenerife, several major cities are among the most booked destinations. London, Barcelona and Paris are all popular choices, and Berlin also makes it onto Ticket's list as this year's newcomer.
At the same time, there is a clear interest in Thailand. Bangkok and Phuket both rank high on the list, which shows that many people also choose to use their sports holidays for longer trips with a focus on warmth and experiences.
