Several airlines have suspended traffic across the Middle East and to the Gulf states due to Saturday's lightning attack on Iran.

Norwegian Air has canceled all flights to and from Dubai until March 4 and Lufthansa has canceled flights over the weekend.

The war in the Middle East has had immediate effects on air traffic. The airports in Tel Aviv, Doha and Dubai are closed until further notice and all flights to and from the airports on Saturday are canceled, reports TT.

The EU's aviation safety agency EASA on Saturday warned all European airlines not to fly not only to destinations in the Middle East but also over the region. Flights there are described as high-risk flights, with arguments such as missiles and other airborne defense and attack weapons being able to reach the high altitudes at which commercial traffic flies.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, several airlines have changed routes or canceled flights even in the longer term. In addition to Norwegian Air's cancellation of flights to Dubai for a week, Lufthansa is also notable, which has canceled flights to Dubai but also to Oman, Beirut and Tel Aviv until March 7.

Hungarian Wizz Air is canceling all flights to Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Amman until March 7. Turkish Airlines on Saturday suspended all traffic to and from the Gulf states and announced that flights to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Jordan are canceled until March 2.

British Virgin Atlantic has rerouted traffic to avoid airspace over Iraq.
