Lufthansa cancels 20,000 departures

German airline Lufthansa is choosing to cancel 20,000 flights from May to October, citing rising fuel prices. 

The savings correspond to approximately 40,000 tons of jet fuel, the price of which has doubled since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, Lufthansa writes in a statement. press release.

The adjustment is intended to reduce the number of unprofitable short-haul flights within Lufthansa's network.

Furthermore, Lufthansa announces that the airline is accelerating the consolidation of its European network of airlines, which includes Lufthansa Airlines, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and ITA Airways.

Three flight routes are being removed completely as a result of the change, including the route between Frankfurt and Stavanger.
