Despite reports of increased costs for jet fuel, and several airlines introducing a fuel surcharge on airline tickets, there is still no clear effect on ticket prices. Looking ahead to the coming months, there are no major changes in what travelers actually pay.

Recently, jet fuel prices have been affected by a more uncertain global situation. For airlines and charter companies, where fuel constitutes a large part of the costs, this means changed conditions. However, when you compare the development in the industry with what travelers are actually facing right now, a different picture emerges.

– There is an expectation that travel will become more expensive, but despite several airlines introducing fuel surcharges on flight prices, we are not seeing that effect on final prices at the moment. On the contrary, there are many really affordable options, especially on charter trips in May and June, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR & communications manager at travel agency Ticket.

Examples of travel destinations where there are currently many affordable options are Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia and Albania.

Looking ahead, there is uncertainty about how long the current price picture will last. High fuel prices are making many departures and destinations unprofitable for airlines, and many airlines have already started to cancel flights and reduce capacity. If fuel prices continue to remain at a high level and flight availability also decreases, this is likely to translate into higher prices for customers. However, at present, there is much to suggest that travelers who book for early summer are still in a relatively favorable position.
