European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has asked thousands of its employees to cut certain expenses by 10 per cent, as global uncertainty and supply chain issues continue to put pressure on the aviation industry.

The savings directive is primarily aimed at non-industrial costs and at the head office.

Sources say that the tighter cost controls have been in place for several weeks and concern, among other things, consultancy services and subcontractor costs.
