The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel to La Paz in Bolivia starting today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes on its website.

Bolivia has been rocked by huge protests in recent weeks with unions, miners, teachers and indigenous groups demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz Pereira.

A large number of roads around the country have been blocked by protesters. On several occasions, the entrance to El Alto Airport in La Paz has also been blocked.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' advice remains in effect until further notice.
