Cuba is planning extensive reforms

Remove

The government of Cuba has presented 176 measures intended to pull the country out of the serious crisis it is in.

Several of the points aim to reduce the state's role in the economy and attract investment.

The reforms were presented by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero in a speech to the National Assembly on Thursday, and, according to news agency AFP, involve a liberalisation of the communist-ruled country's economy.

Sectors that are being affected include agriculture, tourism and banking. It was already clear last week that reforms were underway, including in the form of increased scope for small businesses.

The USA and its president Donald Trump have put Cuba under high pressure over the past year, including establishing a blockade on oil supplies to the country.
