Copenhagen Airport set a new June record when 3.17 million passengers passed through the terminals during the first summer month of the year. This is the highest number of June travellers in the airport's history and approximately 46,000 more than during the same month last year.

Even individual days broke records. Sunday, June 7th, became the busiest day ever at Copenhagen Airport, with 121,722 passengers. According to the airport's forecasts, that record is expected to be broken as early as July 19th, when approximately 124,000 travellers are estimated to pass through the terminals.

– Summer is our peak season and the first summer month of the year broke several records. We had our busiest ever June and the busiest single day in the airport's history, says Peter Krogsgaard, Commercial Director at Copenhagen Airport.

Spain remains a summer favourite

Southern Europe dominates holiday travel again this year. Spain is the most popular destination with 252,000 passengers in June, followed by Italy with 220,000 and France with 159,000. Together, travel to the three countries increased by five per cent compared to June last year.

Greece remains the number one charter destination, with Crete and Rhodes attracting the most travellers. Charter traffic accounts for around five percent of the airport's total passenger volume.

Strong increase to Asia

A total of 2.8 million passengers travelled on European routes in June, on a par with the previous year. However, the biggest growth was seen on long-haul routes to Asia, where passenger numbers increased by 52 percent.

The increase is mainly explained by more departures and new direct routes to, among others, Seoul and Ho Chi Minh City.

At the same time, Copenhagen Airport notes that passenger growth was somewhat lower than expected, as some airlines have reduced the number of departures due to rising fuel prices.
