Emirates is introducing a new adjustable headrest for economy class, which the airline says is the first of its kind. The so-called U-Dream Headrest is designed to provide better support for the head and neck during long flights and is being gradually installed across the company's fleet.
The headrest, developed in collaboration with Safran Seats, features adjustable side wings that can be folded in to provide support when the passenger is sleeping or resting. The design can also be adjusted in height and angle to accommodate passengers of different heights.
Installation has already begun on Emirates’ Airbus A350 aircraft and is due to be available on all A350s by the end of the year. It will also be fitted as standard on the 270 Boeing 777X aircraft the airline has ordered. From 2027, the headrest will also be fitted to the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft undergoing Emirates’ extensive cabin modernisation.
“We have found a way to significantly improve the comfort of our Economy Class passengers, especially on long-haul flights. U-Dream provides full neck support when you want to sleep, eliminating the need for neck pillows,” said Emirates CEO Sir Tim Clark.
The new headrest is said to meet European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) safety requirements and is designed to be easily cleaned between flights.
The launch is part of Emirates’ drive to enhance comfort in Economy Class, with the airline highlighting its entertainment system with over 6,500 channels, the rollout of Starlink-based Wi-Fi, in-flight dining options and ongoing cabin modernization as part of its long-haul offering
