Copenhagen Airport and the Red Cross are starting a collaboration to give more children from economically disadvantaged families the opportunity to have positive summer experiences. Through a new campaign at the airport's baggage claim, returning travelers can easily donate money to the Red Cross's holiday activities.

Travelers can scan a QR code while waiting for their luggage and donate any amount via MobilePay. The money will go to the Red Cross Holiday assistance, which arranges camps, family vacations and day trips for children and families with limited financial resources.

“Holiday assistance gives vulnerable children and their families an important break and wonderful experiences during the summer. As an airport where thousands of people return home from their holidays, we want to help pass on the joy,” says Maria Skotte, Sustainability Manager at Copenhagen Airport.

According to the Red Cross, 64 percent of economically vulnerable families cannot afford a week's vacation away from home in 2025. At the same time, 65 percent that their children miss out on activities during the summer holidays, and almost half believe that it leads to exclusion.

“For many children, summer vacation is the highlight of the year, but for some it is a reminder that they are left out. With this campaign, travelers can help more children create their own summer memories,” says Anders Ladekarl, Secretary General of the Red Cross.

A donation of 300 Danish kroner enough to give a child a day at a summer camp, while 1,500 Danish kroner can finance a full week's holiday experience.

The campaign is part of a long-term partnership between Copenhagen Airport and the Red Cross, which also includes collecting leftover travel currency for humanitarian efforts in Denmark and internationally. Last year, over 2,500 children and adults in the Red Cross holiday activities, with the support of 344 volunteers.
