The Eiffel Tower was forced to remain closed on Monday after staff went on strike.

The protest action is due to the relocation and replacement of female employees during a visit by a Hindu delegation, France 24 reports.

The company that runs the Eiffel Tower states that the group had asked that the private visit be arranged so that contact with women was limited.

The staff say they are “shocked” that the company agreed to the demand. In retrospect, the company says they should not have agreed to it.
