The Danish government wants to introduce a tourist tax in Copenhagen and Aarhus, reports the Danish business newspaper Børsen.

The information comes from "several central government sources" and a memorandum from the government.

If it becomes a reality, it means that visiting guests will have to pay 20 kronor in tax per night in the Swedish favorite Copenhagen and in Aarhus. In addition, there is a tax on cruise ships.

Similar proposals have been discussed politically in Denmark for several years, but have so far never become reality. The new taxes will help finance a number of significant tax cuts that the Danish government will seek support for this autumn, writes the Ritzau news agency.
