Heavy snowfall has blocked all roads and trains leading to Zermatt in the Swiss Alps.
Approximately 13,000 tourists are stuck in the ski resort, which has also been hit by a power outage, according to Janine Imesch, manager of the ski resort.
Zermatt has around 5,500 inhabitants and can accommodate around 13,400 tourists.
But the stranded tourists will not be able to take advantage of the abundant snow for the time being, as there is a high risk of avalanches in the area.
