In total, nearly 5 million passengers traveled on the ships. During June–August, the number of passengers was nearly 1.8 million and many departures during the holiday season were sold out well in advance.

Traffic on the different lines

The number of passengers travelling with the shipping company in 2023 was 4,897,494 (4,945,564), which is a very good result considering the reduced capacity with fewer ships than the previous year. The ship Amorella ended its service for Viking Line in October 2022, while Rosella made its last call in early January 2023.

  • The largest passenger increase in 2023 was seen on Viking Grace and Viking Glory on the Stockholm – Åland – Turku route with 2,123,647 (1,955,988) passengers. Viking Line's market share here was 74 %. Viking Glory, which entered service in 2022, still has the charm of novelty and is a very popular ship. Together with Viking Grace, Viking Glory forms a strong combination on this route.
  • Viking Gabriella operated under its own management on the Helsinki – Åland – Stockholm route during the year and had 496,844 (515,445) passengers. During the summer, the ship, together with Viking Cinderella, made extra daytime calls between Helsinki and Tallinn. In addition, Gabriella had a number of special cruises during the year.
  • Viking Cinderella operated in cruise traffic between Stockholm and Mariehamn and carried 534,149 (517,354) passengers. The ship also made special cruises to several Baltic Sea destinations during the year.
  • On January 17, 2023, Rosella, which was in service between Mariehamn and Kapellskär, was sold to a Greek buyer. Rosella had 16,190 passengers in January.
  • Between the capitals Helsinki and Tallinn, M/S Viking XPRS carried 1,655,548 (1,266,642) passengers.
  • The number of passengers on various special cruises and other routes was 71,116.
  • The number of freight units was 125,269 and the number of passenger cars was 563,081.

We are ending a good year. In 2023, Viking XPRS was reflagged to the Finnish flag and in the autumn we decided to do the same with Viking Cinderella, which in the spring of 2024 will move to the Stockholm - Helsinki route. The new financial year 2024 will be both exciting and demanding. We are following the development of the economy with great attention and adapting to meet the challenges we face. In the autumn, we formed a joint company together with Gotlandsbolaget with the task of developing and offering cruises with M/S Birka Gotland. We see great potential in this collaboration and are generally optimistic about the future of travel on the Baltic Sea, says Jan Hanses, CEO of Viking Line.
