More and more people are attracted to Arctic expedition cruises in Svalbard.
In 2017, sales of Svalbard trips increased by a whopping 30 percent at PolarQuest, Sweden's polar specialist. One of the reasons was the new addition; the ship M/S Sjøveien, and all 2018 Arctic adventure trips with the new ship to the Norwegian archipelago are already sold out.
According to a recent report by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators, AECO, the number of tourists to Svalbard has increased by around 37,000 over the past decade. In 2017, just over 18,000 tourists visited the Norwegian archipelago. The majority came from France, Germany, the US, the UK and China.
At PolarQuest, sales of Svalbard trips increased by a full 30 percent last year. This is largely thanks to the contracting of the vessel M/SSjøveien. Sales of the upcoming season's Svalbard trips have also increased by 18 percent compared to the same period last year. The appetite for Svalbard trips is great!
