A 51-year-old British citizen has been arrested on suspicion of making a bomb threat to a Ryanair flight en route to Oslo. The plane came from London and the threat was received while the plane was in the air.

Norwegian police arrested a 51-year-old British citizen suspected of being behind the bomb threat shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, reports the NTB news agency.

The newspaper Excellent states that the bomb threat was written on a note that the crew found on board the flight.

This is not the first time the airline has received this type of threat. Just last week, a bomb threat was made on a plane en route from Krakow to Dublin. A note was discovered in one of the aircraft's toilets stating that there was a bomb on board.

The Norwegian police later announced that there is reason to suspect that the two incidents may be connected.

”"It is natural to see these two events in context, and that will be one of the questions that the preliminary investigation will try to answer," says preliminary investigation leader Olav Unnestad to NTB.

After receiving the threat, the plane was escorted by Danish F-16 fighter jets. It then landed at Gardermoen, where a police operation was then underway. The airport was on high alert until 2 p.m. After about an hour, all passengers were able to leave the area and bomb disposal experts have examined the plane.

The incident has not affected other air traffic at Gardermoen Airport, airport company Avinor tells NTB.
