In the Peruvian part of the Amazon, a group of indigenous people have taken 70 tourists hostage, writes Swiss 20 Minutes. 

It is a protest. The local community's demand is that the Peruvian government send a delegation to investigate the environmental damage caused by the ruptured Norperuano oil pipeline. The incident reportedly caused 2,500 liters of oil to leak into a nearby river.

”"With this action, we want to attract the government's attention," says Watson Trujillo, leader of the local community of Cuninico, to a local radio station, writes 20 Minuten.

Around 70 tourists are reported to have been captured. Including Peruvians but also people from the US, Spain, France, the UK and Switzerland.
