8,000 flights canceled over Christmas – staff shortages and corona are affecting

Around 8,000 flights were cancelled globally between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, mainly due to staff shortages and the coronavirus. Of these, around 3,000 of the cancelled flights are in the US, Sky News reports.

The number of delayed aircraft was 14,269 at the same time. 

The United States has been particularly hard hit by the new omicron variant, which is spreading rapidly.
